Affirmations for Health: A Challenge

loveAffirmations are a good tool but they’re flawed if you don’t use them correctly. An affirmation is simply a belief. A wish. If you don’t take action on it, nothing will change. And if your affirmations are too lofty, your internal voice is bound to call “B.S.”

{affirmation} the action or process of affirming something or being affirmed; emotional support or encouragement

As you can see from the definition, there’s a fine line between affirming what is present or has potential and what is pure motivation and support.

If you’ve come this far in the 12 month challenge, than hopefully you’ve read up on how to make affirmations the right way with habit one: self awareness. If you haven’t, and you’re just coming to this page on a whim, I encourage you to start from the beginning. But even if you keep reading, you’ll get something from this post. You’ll learn to create and use affirmations for health and happiness.

This is the point where we come full circle. Affirmations are the first step in getting your mindset to change. ACTION, which you’ve been taking through this 12 month journey, includes the steps taken to transform that mindset into reality. And you know what you get from the result of all of this?

Affirmation + Action = Transformation

We started this journey looking in and becoming aware of our thoughts. We took action. Now we’re coming full circle to end this journey from within, to tie everything we’ve learned together. I hope you noticed what I did there. We started with the mind, worked on the body, and we’re tying it together with our spirit. This is why the healthy habits challenge is different from many other programs you have seen or tried. Most programs out there focus on the outside: how we look, how much we weigh, how our clothes fit. Why? Because it’s sexy. It sells. But it doesn’t get you long term results. And isn’t that what you’re after? No one wants to be on a “diet” forever. And if you do, this isn’t the right program for you.

Hopefully in doing these challenges and working toward each monthly habit, you’ve realized that working from the inside first gives you entirely different results.

By changing our thoughts, we changed our actions. By changing our actions, we’ve transformed our life.

This doesn’t mean we’re finished. We can always improve, always keep pushing to do better. To be better. But it does mean that you can now start to be your best self. Your most authentic, confident, strong, empowered self. And that starts with accepting yourself where you are. Today. Right now. In this moment.

Whether you started the healthy habits challenge from the beginning, worked on it here and there, or are seeing this post before anything else, you can still do this week’s challenge. This month is all about self love and today we’re going to create a daily affirmation. This will be your mantra, your motivation, your theme song. Here are a few to get you inspired. Use one of these or find one on your own.

I choose to be kind to myself.

JamilaI am the only me and that is beautiful.

I opt for forgiveness and set myself free.

The more I care for and love myself, the more love I will experience from others.

I have all that I need to make today a great day.

I allow myself to fill my body and soul with love and grace.

I make time to nourish my mind, body and spirit.

I will not let the pursuit of perfection consume me.

Every experience I have today is perfect for my growth.

I choose to accept myself for all that I am today.

I will show love for myself as I would want to love others.

I release the need to replay negative thoughts over and over again in my mind.

CHALLENGE: Find an affirmation or quote that inspires you and sets the tone for the person you want to be. Put it on a post it note on your bathroom mirror, stick it in your car, make it your phone background, write it in your journal every day… It doesn’t matter HOW you do it but find a way to read it and remind yourself how you want to think of and treat yourself.
