Healthy Thanksgiving – From Breakfast to Bedtime

thanksgivingOf all the days in the year, Thanksgiving is one holiday that revolves around food more than any other. But, we need to remember that this day is about so much more than food. It’s about spending quality time with family and friends, counting our blessings, and finding ways to give back to others.

When it comes to the meal, it’s easy for many of us to think it’s only once a year so we can go ahead and gobble up as muchΒ as we can stuff in our gullet. Not everyone has this luxury. Whether it’s an allergy, medical condition, or dietary restriction, some people have to enjoy the meal a bit differently. This situation is truly hitting home this year, as I have a few family members who need modified meals. And I certainly don’t wantΒ to exclude them from enjoying all of the traditional dishes!

So I collected recipes… some my own and some from other great home cooks. These can fit a variety of needs– from allergen-free to diet-friendly to low sodium, low sugar and so on. If you have a question about a particular recipe that you need to fit your needs, don’t hesitate to ask! Make the whole menu or pick and choose to have a few healthier options on the table.

You just never know, you may need a modified recipe one day. So make this day wonderful for those friends and family members too πŸ™‚

Post-Meal Snack

Turkey Sandwich

  • 2 slices whole grain bread
  • a few slices of turkey
  • a scoop of cranberry sauce
  • cheese (brie or white cheddar work really well)
  • handful of mixed greens

Just add all the ingredients and smush it between two slices of bread. Broil in the oven on low for a few minutes or put it into a panini maker for a toasted version !
